Robin Wright Discusses Leaving America Behind

Actress Robin Wright recently expressed her relief and excitement about moving away from the United States, calling the country a “shit show.” She described her departure as “liberating,” sharing her thoughts in an interview with The Times.

“It’s liberating to be done,” she emphasized. “You end up searching and only finding about 60% of what you wanted.” Based in the UK now, she expressed her fondness for her new surroundings, noting the kindness of the people there. “There’s a sense of freedom here. People are present. They aren’t just trapped in their cars or glued to their phones while munching on sandwiches, which seems to be the norm in America.”

However, it’s worth mentioning that her perspective may seem somewhat narrow. Wright painted a picture of America that feels confined to the Hollywood experience, overlooking broader realities.

Interestingly, despite her claims of a freer UK, a significant number of individuals face arrests for expressing political opinions. In 2023, for example, over 12,000 people were arrested in Britain for not adhering to government-approved viewpoints.

The UK is also grappling with serious issues, such as ongoing child abuse scandals that have made headlines. Reports indicate that numerous young girls have suffered as a result of neglect by the authorities, amidst fears about immigration repercussions.

In a previous controversy, Wright defended her colleague Kevin Spacey against allegations of sexual misconduct, suggesting that a person’s private life should remain personal. “Why do we need to make our private lives public? I dislike that aspect of the industry. It feels invasive,” she remarked.

Wright is among a wave of American celebrities seeking a new life in the UK, joining figures like Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, and Lena Dunham, all of whom have voiced dissatisfaction with the current political climate in the States.
