Adam Sandler Provides Update on 'Grown Ups 3': "We're Not Sure What's Going On"

Adam Sandler’s Potential ‘Grown Ups 3’ Update

Adam Sandler seems open to the idea of bringing back his summer comedy franchise. While attending the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, he shared some thoughts on the ongoing speculation surrounding Grown Ups 3.

At 59, Sandler reminisced about the original cast, which included Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. The first Grown Ups film came out in 2010, highlighting five childhood friends reuniting for a Fourth of July celebration. It was a hit, raking in over $270 million globally, and its sequel in 2013 managed to pull in an additional $200 million.

Fast forward a decade, and fans are curious if the group will come together once more. There have been whispers about filming starting in Vancouver next February, but Sandler clarified that nothing is set in stone.

“You never really know what’s going to happen… we might end up doing something,” he mentioned, expressing his excitement. “I love it. Everyone’s busy with their projects too, and it would be amazing to get the gang back together. We had a blast making the first two, but honestly, I’m just not sure what’s next.”

Kevin James added some intrigue back in July when he suggested that talks had taken place. “There were discussions, and I think we can keep hope alive,” he said. “Something might be happening; I can say that much.”

While contemplating Grown Ups 3, Sandler is also busy with other projects. He appeared at the AFI Fest alongside his wife, Jackie Sandler, promoting his film Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach. The movie features George Clooney and explores themes of fame and friendship.

“I’ve been fortunate with this project,” Sandler explained. “Noah pitched the concept to me a year before the script was written. When I finally read it, I felt this strong emotional connection, and I wanted to make sure I lived up to that vision.”

He also noted how playing a talent manager in the film deepened his appreciation for his team. One line that struck him was when he tells Clooney’s character, “Jay, you’re Jay Kelly, but I’m Jay Kelly.” It reflects how he views the support he’s received throughout his career.

In addition to his upcoming works, Sandler’s sequel Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix this July, nearly three decades after the first movie. “People have been asking me about a sequel for 28 years,” he mentioned. “I used to think, ‘No way,’ but recently, I thought, ‘Maybe.’”

This sequel is set to feature guest appearances by Eminem, Bad Bunny, and Travis Kelce. “We wrote a song, and people were really generous in joining us,” he said. “Every day was special with these great talents around.”

Jay Kelly is scheduled for select theater releases on November 14 and will be available globally on Netflix starting December 5.
