Adam Sandler Returns in “Happy Gilmore 2”

Nearly three decades after the original, Adam Sandler is back with a sequel—”Happy Gilmore 2.” He has brought along some familiar faces, including his daughters, Sunny and 16-year-old Sadie.

Sandler, who has been in the spotlight for over 30 years, shared with Fox News Digital some of the lessons he aims to impart to his children. For instance, he emphasizes the importance of kindness, saying, “Be kind to everyone.” His co-star Julie Bowen, who reprises her role as Virginia Venit, echoed this sentiment, commenting, “You raised them right.” It’s heartwarming to see that sentiment carried through the years.

Bowen added, “Be kind to everyone, not just those who stand out.” Sandler also mentioned that the crew is just as important as anyone else in the industry, joking, “They will repel their a-es.” He encourages his kids to treat everyone well, regardless of status, admitting humorously that if someone is making a lot of money, “you can give them a snap.” It’s a mix of playful advice and genuine concern.

Interestingly, he revealed that he didn’t realize his daughters would be appearing in the film until they showed up on set. “What are you doing here?” he asked them in surprise.

In addition to his daughters, Sandler’s wife Jackie makes an appearance alongside several other celebrities like Chris McDonald, Ben Stiller, Hailey Joel Osment, Eminem, and Travis Kelce. It’s a diverse cast, which really adds to the vibe of the film.

Going back to the roots of the story, Sandler’s character, Happy Gilmore, originally debuted in 1996 and this time around, he is focused on fulfilling his child’s dreams. This theme of family and legacy seems central to the sequel.

Sandler, now 58, has had quite a prolific career, with memorable roles in films like “Billy Madison,” “The Waterboy,” and “The Wedding Singer.” He emphasized that the key to comedy, in his experience, is working closely with creative teams to craft engaging content that resonates with audiences.

Bowen, who worried she might be replaced by a younger actress, looked back on her initial concerns with laughter. “Why would I say that?” she remarked, teasing about Sandler’s joking nature.

As for the original film’s antagonist, Chris McDonald has returned as Shooter McGavin. He teased that their rivalry is even more exciting in this sequel, hinting at a “redeeming moment” where they unite for a common goal. It appears that the film will explore deeper themes while keeping the humor alive.

Looking ahead, “Happy Gilmore 2” is set to premiere on Netflix on July 25th. The mix of nostalgia and new adventures is sure to draw in both fans of the original and a new generation.
