Micah Parsons’ Trade Speculation with the Cowboys
Micah Parsons has expressed his wish to be traded from the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, leading to a flurry of speculation about how owner Jerry Jones might handle this contract situation.
ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter has suggested that a “divorce” between Parsons and the team could be on the horizon. He mentioned in a recent podcast episode, “I see both of these heading towards divorce in time.”
Currently, Parsons is attending the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California, where, interestingly, he was seen alongside Jones. However, discussions about Parsons’ contract haven’t taken place since the spring of last year, according to Schefter. He pointed out, “If you’re not talking, you can’t get the deal done,” noting that tensions seem to be rising on both sides.
As for Parsons, he was recently queried about the contract discussions and responded rather tersely. He hinted at feeling sidelined, stating, “Did you find a way to put those feelings aside for others in the past and resolve the transaction? Yeah. I don’t think it’s going on here.”
Jones, however, has publicly reassured fans that he has no intention of trading Parsons, despite the latter’s social media communications indicating otherwise. In an attempt to calm nerves, Jones advised fans not to “lose sleep” over the situation.
Parsons has expressed his commitment to staying with the Cowboys and playing for their loyal fans. He stated, “Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a cowboy and wear a helmet star.” He also stressed that he doesn’t want negotiations to keep him from actively contributing as a player.
Schefter mentioned that similar situations have resolved in favor of the players in the past, like the Cleveland Browns did with Miles Garrett this offseason. Yet, it appears the current situation is leaning towards a more complex resolution.
The main question now, according to Schefter, revolves around the timing of any potential separation: “When does that divorce happen and how will it happen?” The uncertainty of whether Parsons will be traded now, at the end of the season, or possibly in the near future remains up in the air.
Parsons is on track to play in his fifth-year option this season, valued at $24 million. The Cowboys still have the option to tag him for two more seasons should they not reach a long-term agreement.
As of now, Jones has not made any assurances regarding Parsons’ availability for the upcoming match against the Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
