Adam Schefter calls into ‘Pat McAfee Show’ from cab in travel nightmare

The family travel nightmare wasn’t a big deal for Adam Schefter.

Despite facing disruptions on the way home due to a global technology disruption on Friday, NFL insiders at ESPN Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” From the taxi he hired to take his family from Detroit to New York after two cancelled flights.

Usually seen in a suit, he joined McAfee, who dubbed the hoodie-wearing veteran sportscaster “Casual Shefty,” to discuss the latest on the NFL as training camp approaches, all the while smiling and talking about the hardships of traveling for his family.

“I’ve never seen anything like what I saw in metro Detroit. We were in line for a flight. [feed freezes]”…The traffic was so intense that it lasted for six hours until the flights were canceled at 1 a.m.,” Schefter explained. “It was like a nightclub. Everyone was trying to get Uber, Lyft, taxis, whatever.”

I got back to the hotel at 2:30am, I had another flight booked for today, but it got cancelled, so I hired a cab and went back to New York. Now I’m in Pennsylvania, four hours away.”

Schefter, who was in Michigan “for business with his young daughter,” explained that his flight from Detroit to New York was one of many canceled Sunday, and described the chaos as a “total meltdown.”

“There is zero integrity and zero transparency from these airlines. It’s a tragedy what’s happening,” he continued. “I’ve spoken to people at other airports and it’s a disaster.”

Their plight was made even more dire by the fact that Schefter’s wife, Shari, has type 1 diabetes and only had one day’s worth of insulin left.

McAfee, a WWE commentator and daily sports talk show host, played down the situation, praising his friend for “finding a solution” while also expressing his sympathy.

“I’m sorry that you and your family are in that situation. It’s unbelievable the reality of it all when you think about insulin and diabetes and how public transportation, especially commercial airlines, can impact someone’s life,” he said.
