Debate Over “Tush Push” Continues on Philadelphia Sports Radio
During a recent segment on 97.5 “The Fanatic,” host John Kincade found himself in a spirited discussion with ESPN’s Adam Schefter regarding the controversial “tush push” play and its impact on the Eagles’ performance.
Schefter stated, “This game was lost in March,” referring to when NFL owners chose not to ban the play. He emphasized that the Eagles’ trouble was rooted in that decision, rather than any recent game events.
“The Eagles seem to lose many games in March because this play is incredibly difficult to defend against. It’s almost like even the refs are confused about what to do,” he added.
However, Kincade countered, pointing to specific moments in the game that he believed were more pivotal. “That game slipped away when Travis Kelce dropped an interception that could have shifted momentum. And let’s not forget when Andy Reid opted for a risky fourth down play near his own 36-yard line, which handed the Eagles an easy field goal.”
With a hint of frustration, Schefter challenged Kincade, asking why he seemed so passionate about the subject. Kincade’s retort suggested that while people might focus on the “tush push,” it wasn’t the sole reason for the Eagles’ loss.
“Wasn’t that interception a bigger factor? Sure, the Eagles executed well with that push play, but it wasn’t the only reason they won,” Schefter responded, trying to clarify his stance on the debated play.
The conversation, while intense, seemed to wrap up amicably, but it didn’t settle the divisive topic of the “tush push.”
Last March, the NFL teams voted on the play’s legality. Reports indicate that there were some influencing discussions among voters, with Jason Kelce notably advocating for it.
Despite the ongoing debates, the Eagles continue to successfully deploy this tactic. However, questions linger about whether it will face scrutiny in future games, as it’s likely to remain a hot topic throughout the season.
