Adam Schefter says wife ‘didn’t appreciate’ raunchy story about breaking news

Adam Schefter's story about having a breaking news report right after he “finished work” in his bedroom was a big laugh to most people, but his wife didn't appreciate it.

ESPN NFL officials told a story about the “weirdest place” they learned of on breaking news and implied it happened right after they had sex.

“I remember being in Denver one time, and I was like, hmmm… how can I say this? I had just spent time with this woman for the first time,” Schefter said on “The Football Podcast.” He spoke sarcastically. “Then I received a text that said, [former Broncos cornerback] Dale Carter was suspended for eight games for substance abuse.

“So I just kept lying there, checking it out and getting the job done in every way possible.”

Schefter returned to the air Wednesday and said his cell phone was blowing up on the topic of the virus.

And one of the people who reached out was his wife, Shari Maio.

“I've been responding to text messages about this all day, including from my wife this afternoon.” Schefter said. “I don't think my wife appreciates the story as much as others do. I'll point that out. Some people enjoy it, but she doesn't really appreciate it.”

Schefter did not say what Maio told him to do.

“I don't know what to say. … What do you want me to say?” He admitted he was “completely shocked” by how quickly the story spread.

Schefter and Maio married in 2007, six years after Maio became a widow after the Sept. 11 attacks. Maio and Schefter have a daughter, and Maio has another son from his first marriage.
