California Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D) on Sunday called on the Senate to reject the nomination of Kash Patel to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), continuing his long-running personal vendetta against Patel.
Mr. Schiff has been trying to destroy Mr. Patel since 2017. Mr. Patel helped expose the fact that members of the outgoing Obama administration abused their power to “reveal” the names of Americans caught on foreign wiretaps. Schiff, then ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, wrote: memo In it, he unsuccessfully tried to refute the Republican majority's argument that the FBI's surveillance of Carter Page, then an aide to candidate Donald Trump, was justified.
Schiff's claims were later debunked by a Justice Department Inspector General report, validating Republican concerns about the FBI's abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) courts to target President Trump.
