Adam Schiff Launches Legal Defense Fund Amid DOJ Investigation
California Senator Adam Schiff is currently facing an investigation by the Department of Justice concerning allegations of mortgage fraud.
In light of this, Schiff has established a Legal Defense Fund, likely preparing for potential litigation over claims suggesting he listed a Maryland property as his major residence to evade California’s substantial property taxes.
A representative for Schiff confirmed the formation of the fund to Politico, stating that it aims to help him combat what they consider unfounded accusations.
Marisol Samayoa, Schiff’s spokesperson, remarked, “It’s evident that Donald Trump and his allies are using legal avenues to attack Senator Schiff for merely holding this administration accountable. This fund ensures that he can counter these baseless smears while continuing his work.”
President Trump has been vocal about his allegations against Schiff, expressing suspicions through social media posts. He stated, “I have always thought Shifty Adam Schiff was a fraudster, and now I know that Fannie Mae’s financial crimes division believes there is a persistent pattern of possible mortgage fraud linked to him.” Trump asserts that Schiff falsely designated a Maryland property as his primary residence from 2009 through various transactions until 2020.
Attempts to hold Schiff accountable were described by Trump as warranted, as he stated, “Mortgage fraud is severe enough that we need to bring the crooked Adam Schiff to trial.”
Democratic responses have been critical. Schiff noted, “Since I initially led the charge against him, Trump has repeatedly called for my arrest on charges of treason. So, I find this all rather disappointing.” He added that this effort at political retaliation wouldn’t deter him from holding Trump accountable.
Moreover, Schiff faces additional accusations of leaking confidential information while serving on the House Intelligence Committee. His spokesperson strongly denied these claims, labeling them as “absolutely and decisively false.”
