Adam Thielen's wife discusses his departure from the Vikings

Adam Thielen’s Move from Vikings to Steelers

For Adam Thielen, a seasoned wide receiver, leaving the Vikings for his last NFL season was not simply about wins or losses.

This week, in a social media post, his wife, Caitlin, shared insights into the decision for Thielen to part ways with Minnesota amidst a tough 4-8 season, highlighting his eagerness to remain active on the field.

“It’s been a really crazy few days,” Caitlin started in the video. “Thank you everyone for all the kind words and prayers. It’s been really challenging for Adam and for our family. This is a significant decision. It’s not about wins or losses, it’s really about Adam wanting to compete and play, especially since this is his last season.”

Thielen was traded back to the Vikings from the Panthers in August but has struggled this season, recording just eight receptions for 69 yards, both of which are career lows.

On Monday, the Vikings announced that they had released Thielen to allow him to find more playing time elsewhere. “This was to give him a chance to pursue more opportunities,” they stated.

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah mentioned, “Last week, Adam’s agent approached the team, asking if they could release him because of his desire to contribute more in the remaining weeks of his final NFL season.”

After weekend discussions, the team decided out of respect for Thielen to grant him this opportunity. He is regarded as one of the best Vikings in history, and the organization wished him well.

Thielen originally joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and developed into a notable player over the course of ten years. He was injured during a recent 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.

As the Steelers navigate their playoff aspirations, they claimed Thielen off waivers on Tuesday, effectively giving quarterback Aaron Rodgers a new target as he celebrates his 42nd birthday.

Caitlin, who shares three children with Thielen, expressed her support through an Instagram farewell while the family braces for changes during the holiday season.

“The holidays are never simple, but we trust God has a plan. We’re excited to see Adam compete and finish his career doing what he loves! We couldn’t be prouder and will always support him. Wishing him safety and success… Let’s go Adam, let’s go Steelers!!!” she wrote on Tuesday.

This Sunday, the 6-6 Steelers will face off against their divisional rivals, the 6-6 Ravens, in a critical game for the AFC North.
