Adams Dodges on if Biden Is Better than Trump for New York, ‘I’m Looking Forward to the Debate’

On Friday’s broadcast of “The PM Rush” on New York’s 1010 WINS, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) refused to say whether President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, would be better for New York, saying “I don’t think anybody can say mission accomplished” when asked who is better on immigration.

“As mayor and as a politician who’s followed this issue for a long time, whose immigration policy do you think is better for New York City? Joe Biden’s or Donald Trump’s?” host Lane Vallardi asked.

Adams responded, “Well, I don’t think anybody can declare mission accomplished. I think we need real immigration reform. We need a decompression strategy that ensures that we monitor border movements and that those coming in are also addressing the needs of the country. A lot of our communities need workers and they’re losing population. I think we can turn this into a positive if done properly. I’m hopeful that both candidates will look at how to do it the right way. But it’s clear that Republicans have blocked real immigration reform. I think we need to do a better job of addressing this issue.”

“But if we expect that maybe Donald Trump will be in the White House again, would his policies be better for New York at that point, or would Joe Biden’s policies be better?” Bajardi continued.

“I look forward to the debate. I’m really pleased with a lot of the things the current president has done on public safety, on rebuilding our economy, and I’m looking forward to both his mission and his vision, particularly on immigration,” Adams said.[s] And asylum seekers. So I’m going to sit on my couch, eat some popcorn, like any other American, and listen to that vision.”
