Adams says he’s ‘here to work with’ Trump

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) told Tucker Carlson he was “here to work” with President Trump after the two politicians met days before Trump's inauguration.

Mr. Adams spoke to Mr. Carlson, a political commentator and former Fox News host, for about an hour. interview It aired on Tuesday, it was his conversation He said his meeting with President Trump on Friday went “very well,” and the president said he loves New York City.

“We talked about how we can work together to improve this city. As I've said to everyone, I'm not here to run against the president. I'm going to work with him. “That's what I came here for, and everyone should do that,” he said.

Adams noted that other Democratic officials have said similar things about Trump, saying Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) had a “great meeting” with Trump, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (Democratic Party) of “Mr. Trump.'' willingly We will work with Mr. Trump as much as possible.

But Adams' comments came amid a criminal case against the sitting mayor and amid growing speculation about his close ties to President Trump. Adams is charged with wire fraud and bribery for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes from foreign businessmen and Turkish government officials.

Adams denies the charges and maintains his innocence.

But like Trump, Adams insists the charges are politically motivated. Carlson claimed in the interview that he was charged because he regularly complained to the Biden administration about the immigration situation caused by the influx of immigrants into New York City.

President Trump also strongly condemned the politically motivated charges against him as a political opponent.

President-elect Trump said in December that he would consider pardoning Adams, arguing that the mayor had been “substantially wronged.” Before that, he expressed sympathy for Adams' situation and called him “honest.”

Adams did not directly say whether he would accept a pardon from President Trump for the charges he faces, but said it was “not on my agenda.”

While other Democrats have expressed some openness to working with Trump, Adams specifically spoke out about it and delivered sharp criticism of the current president during the campaign, which his fellow Democrats called on. avoided.

“I think there are some great opportunities, and we need to find those points of agreement,” Adams told Carlson.
