Additional two individuals implicated in the Louvre Museum theft incident in Paris last month

Louvre Theft Update

Paris prosecutors revealed last month that two additional individuals have been charged regarding the recent theft at the Louvre, raising the total number of suspects charged to four.

A total of seven people have been apprehended in connection with this renowned museum, which was targeted on October 19th. A group of four allegedly broke into the Apollo Museum and made off with jewelry valued at 88 million euros, or about $102 million.

The brazen act unfolded in broad daylight, taking less than eight minutes.

As reported by Agence France-Presse, a 38-year-old woman from La Courneuve, a suburb of Paris, was apprehended and charged with organized theft and criminal conspiracy.

Furthermore, a 37-year-old man was also detained for theft and conspiracy, according to various reports. Both of these individuals have not had their identities disclosed and are denying any involvement in the crime.

A magistrate decided over the weekend that the two suspects must remain in custody during the ongoing investigation because of concerns that they might collaborate with others to tamper with evidence.

The 37-year-old man has previous robbery convictions, and two other suspects already detained face charges of criminal conspiracy and organized theft.

One suspect, a 34-year-old Algerian national living in France since 2010, was intercepted at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a flight to Algeria.

Authorities note that this suspect has prior legal issues, primarily concerning traffic violations. Investigators reportedly linked his DNA to a scooter used during the escape.

Another suspect, aged 39, also resides in Aubervilliers and has a record of multiple thefts. His DNA was found on a glass display case that had held some of the stolen jewelry, as well as several items left behind at the scene.
