Adrian Grenier will not be back for the 'Devil Wears Prada' sequel

The sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” titled “Devil Wears Prada 2,” is in need of a new grilled cheese server, with Adrian Grenier not returning to reprise his role as Nate Cooper. This was reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The original cast members, including Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci, are confirmed to return, as production on the sequel kicked off on Monday.

In the first film, Grenier’s character is the college boyfriend of Hathaway’s Andy Sachs. Their relationship deteriorates as Andy rises in her career at Runway Magazine. Eventually, Nate opts for a new job in Boston, stepping away from the runway scene.

Grenier has reflected on the film’s dynamics, noting how fans have labeled his character as the real antagonist. He mentioned that it was challenging for him to understand that perspective initially, attributing it to his own immaturity at the time. However, after engaging with criticisms, he acknowledges that while Nate wasn’t developing, Andy was seeking more in her life.

Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the start of filming for “Devil Wears Prada 2,” with Hathaway, 42, and Tucci, 64, also lending their support. A teaser clip featuring red heels was shared on Instagram, captioned with the announcement of the production.

Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna are returning for the sequel. Additionally, Kenneth Branagh is reportedly joining the cast as a character associated with Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Streep.

The sequel appears to explore the challenges of navigating a career amidst the decline of traditional magazine publishing, with Anne Hathaway’s character encountering Blunt’s powerful executive, who holds significant advertising influence.

The 2006 original film was loosely inspired by a memoir by Lauren Weisberger, detailing her experiences as an assistant to Vogue’s Anna Wintour, with Streep’s character mirroring Wintour. There’s currently no release date for “Devil Wears Prada 2.”
