Family Injured by Adult-Sized Carrot During Christmas Prep
A family in Christchurch, Dorset, faced serious injuries that needed stitches after encountering an unusually large carrot while preparing their Christmas dinner.
Julie Butler, 53, and her 86-year-old father, Tony, were busy chopping vegetables on December 25 when they observed that the carrots bore a striking resemblance to the phrase “two meat and two vegetables.”
The duo had purchased the bag of carrots for just 15p at Tesco on Christmas Eve, but initially overlooked the vegetable’s peculiar shape.
Julie shared that she was doing last-minute shopping and only noticed the carrot’s oddity while cooking. “I was making lobster thermidor for my dad and his mother, June, who is 82,” she explained.
On Christmas morning, as they were working in the kitchen, Tony spotted the carrot and erupted into laughter. Julie remarked, “I thought it was very interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen carrots like this.”
Instead of cooking the unusual carrot, the family decided to display it on their mantelpiece alongside Christmas cards. Tony even placed an orange on it to create a playful “head.”
In a lighthearted moment, Julie joked about possibly selling the quirky vegetable on eBay but ultimately felt it was better as part of their family. “He’s part of the family now,” she said.
Staying with her parents for the holidays, Julie noted that their dinner was lovely, filled with laughter and good food.
