Aerosmith retires from touring, Steven Tyler’s voice won’t make full ‘recovery’: ‘Heartbreaking’

After more than 50 years, Aerosmith is retiring from touring.

On Friday, the band’s official X account announced that frontman Steven Tyler’s voice had not fully recovered, leading to the “heartbreaking” decision to cancel the show.

“In 1970, a spark of inspiration gave birth to Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark ignited and has continued to burn for more than 50 years. Some of you have been with us from the beginning, and because of you, we made rock and roll history,” the lengthy statement began.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime for us to have our music be a part of yours. You have given us a part of the soundtrack of your lives – in every club, on every major tour, in big moments and private ones – and we have always wanted to surprise you with our performances,” the statement continued.

The band then spoke about Tyler’s current health situation.

“As you know, Steven’s voice is a unique instrument and he has been practicing tirelessly for months to regain the voice he had before his injury,” the statement read. “I have watched him struggle, despite having the best medical team at his side.

“Unfortunately, it has become clear that he will not be able to fully recover from the injuries he sustained to his vocal cords. We, as a band of brothers, have made the heartbreaking, difficult but necessary decision to retire from the touring stage.”

“One last time, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude to all of you who were excited to hit the road with us,” the statement continued. “Thank you to our skilled crew, incredible team, and the thousands of talented people who made our historic tour possible. And lastly, thank you to the best fans on the planet. Keep playing our music loud, now and always. Keep dreaming. You made our dreams come true.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Aerosmith for additional comment.

In May 2023, Aerosmith announced a farewell tour aimed at giving fans the chance to see the band live one last time.

At the time of the announcement, Guitarist Joe Perry The band spoke about their decision to retire from touring, citing the fact that all of the band members are in their early to mid-70s as a major reason for giving up this part of their careers.

“I think it’s about time,” he said simply.

The group, currently consisting of Perry, Tyler, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton, has been together since 1970 and has released hits over the past 53 years, including “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Crazy” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”

They played those songs and others. Lives in Las Vegas With the tour wrapping up last year, Perry suggested leveraging some of the production value from the residency into her next tour.

“This is kind of a chance for us to celebrate 50 years that we’ve been out here,” Perry said. “I don’t know how long everybody’s going to be healthy and be able to keep doing this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a full-on tour. We did a tour in Las Vegas, which was amazing. It was fun, but (we’re) kind of impatient to get back on the road.”

In a statement to The Associated Press at the time, Tyler said, “I’m opening Pandora’s Box one last time to bring you, my fans, the Peace Out Tour. I’m going to be pulling all the toys out of the attic so be prepared to show up. Be prepared.”

Both Perry and Tyler referred to the upcoming tour as a “farewell tour,” with Tyler adding, “It’s my last farewell tour, but it feels like it’ll be around for a while. But I don’t know how many times I’ll come back to the same cities. It’ll probably be the last time.”
