Teenage Asylum Seekers Jailed for Raping 15-Year-Old in UK Park

Authorities have confirmed that two Afghan teenage asylum seekers have been sentenced to prison after admitting to the rape of a 15-year-old girl in a park in Leamington, Warwickshire.

On May 10, the victim was hanging out with friends when she encountered Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazar. After some conversation, she asked the two to join her for a walk. They led her to a secluded part of the park known as Newbold Comyn, where the assault took place, as stated by Warwickshire Police in an online release.

Following the incident, the girl was able to signal to a passerby for help, who then contacted the authorities. Police began investigating with the aid of surveillance camera footage and photos the victim had taken earlier that day.

This investigation led to the identification and arrest of both suspects, who are 17 years old. Jahanzeb and Niazar were charged with rape and later entered guilty pleas at Coventry Youth Court.

During a hearing at Warwick Crown Court, a judge removed a media ban that had previously kept the suspects’ names confidential. Both are recognized as Afghan asylum seekers. Jahanzeb received a sentence of 10 years and 8 months, while Niazar was sentenced to 9 years and 10 months. They will start their time in juvenile facilities before being moved to adult prisons.

In addition to their sentences, both will be registered as sex offenders for life and face indefinite restraining orders.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Hobbs commended the victims for their bravery in coming forward. He described the event as deeply shocking and emphasized the commitment of specially trained police officers who were involved from the outset. Hobbs noted that the lengthy sentences reflect the severity of the crimes and the need to keep the public safe.

He expressed hope that this case would encourage other victims of sexual violence to report similar incidents, assuring them they would be heard and supported. “Our investigations are thorough, and we strive to bring offenders to justice,” he added.
