After November Election Hakeem Jeffries ‘Will Be Speaker’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on CNN's “The Lead” on Tuesday that Democrats will likely win the House majority in November and then select House Minority Whip Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) as speaker.

“Why can't we all agree that we support a peaceful transfer of power, no matter who wins? He's once again trying to latch onto false conspiracy theories about the election. But we're not bothered. We're organizing. And we're organizing so that Hakeem Jeffries can take the gavel on January 6th. This is about the issues that we care about, the issues at home, the prescription drug cost reductions that we've done, the health care cost reductions that we've done, the child care cost reductions that we've done, which are very important to us, we have to renew this,” Pelosi said.

She continued, “Hakeem will be the chairman.”

Pelosi added, “Our national anthem says, 'Stand through the night, prove our flag is still there.' You've heard me say that over and over again. And tonight is our night, and we must stand through the night, prove our flag is still there. I'll give you another Baltimore phrase, and it comes from horse racing. We are here, and we whip to lead the way, and we whip to lead the way to victory.”
