Agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden accidentally shoots himself in the leg

A member of the U.S. Secret Service, appointed by former First Lady Jill Biden, reportedly took her own life by accidentally discharging a firearm at Philadelphia International Airport. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. local time while she was on duty in an unmarked Chevrolet SUV near the airport’s “1 PIA Way” access point.

The Secret Service confirmed in a statement that the agent was injured while handling her weapon, which was described as military-style. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening. They also clarified that there was no impact on the individuals being protected, as they were not present during the incident.

The agency stated that its Office of Professional Responsibility would conduct a review of the situation and expressed gratitude for the medical assistance provided by law enforcement partners.

According to the Secret Service, there were no reported injuries to anyone else, and the agent is currently receiving care at a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Under the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012, both Jill Biden and former President Joe Biden are entitled to lifelong Secret Service security unless they choose to decline it. Last year, former President Donald Trump terminated the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris. Typically, former vice presidents receive protection for six months post-office, but Biden extended Harris’s coverage by an additional 18 months. The rationale for this extension was not publicly disclosed at the time.
