ICE Arrests Illegal Immigrant with Criminal Past in Virginia
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended an illegal immigrant in Virginia last month, who has a troubling criminal background. David Ambrosio-Herrera, 36, currently residing in Charlottesville, was taken into custody after being convicted of child sex offenses.
Ambrosio-Herrera, who originally hails from Mexico, has a history that includes being convicted of lewd acts with a child under the age of 15. Last October, he was arrested by the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office for exposing himself to a child at a school bus stop. Although he was sentenced to six years in prison, the entire sentence was suspended shortly after his conviction last month.
As he attempted to leave the courthouse following his sentencing, ICE agents arrested him. He reportedly tried to flee but was apprehended and will remain in federal custody pending deportation.
In a statement, ICE representative Joseph Simon highlighted Ambrosio-Herrera’s criminal history, describing him as a persistent offender who poses a danger to the community. Simon emphasized the agency’s commitment to prioritizing public safety by removing such individuals from the country.
Ambrosio-Herrera has been apprehended multiple times for illegal entry into the U.S. He was first arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in April 2007 after crossing the southern border. He returned voluntarily to Mexico but attempted to re-enter just three days later, resulting in another arrest and deportation.
At some point after this, he managed to cross the border undetected. In July 2014, he was arrested in Charlottesville for identity theft and convicted the following month. Subsequently, in January 2017, he faced charges for perjury due to filing a false tax return. This arrest led to his placement in deportation proceedings.
