In just over two months, athletes from hundreds of countries will converge on Paris for the highly anticipated 2024 Summer Olympics.
With the 2020 Summer Olympics postponed because of the coronavirus, athletes had less time to prepare to compete in this year’s Olympics — competition in Tokyo began in July 2021 instead of 2020. As athletes prepare for a chance to win coveted medals this year, those tasked with overseeing the two-week-plus event continue to prepare their defenses against cybersecurity threats.
Cybersecurity has seen an increased focus in recent years as “bad actors” have adopted more sophisticated techniques, but the responsible use of artificial intelligence offers opportunities to combat some of these threats.

Blackbird.AI has developed an AI-based narrative intelligence platform called Constellation that efficiently identifies narratives that are derived from any form of disinformation. The platform then initiates a process where the technology analyzes the narrative, measures the level of risk, and adds context. All these steps are taken to provide clarity so that organizations and anyone leveraging the platform have the best information at their disposal when making critical decisions.
“We have an intelligence platform called Constellation that allows us to discover, analyze and investigate online conversations across all platforms. [help determine] “The risk that that poses, we’re looking at the visibility of the story,” Sarah Boutboul, intelligence analyst at Blackbird.AI, told Fox News Digital.
What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
According to Blackbird.AI, a narrative attack is defined as an allegation that can cause serious harm by “shaping perceptions about people, places, or things in the information ecosystem.” These attacks can also lead to significant financial losses and reputational damage, especially if a particular narrative is based on misinformation.

Blackbird.AI says its Constellation Dashboard has the unique ability to “show you in real time how a narrative attack develops and causes damage.”
of Company website Constellation is described as “multi-modal, assessing text, images and memes; multi-platform, covering the dark web, social media, news and more; and multilingual, supporting over 25 languages.”
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach recently spoke out about the need to embrace AI responsibly in sports, and last month the IOC released its AI plan, which includes improving talent identification, personalizing training, and fairness in judging.
“Today we take a new step towards ensuring the uniqueness of the Olympic Games and the importance of sport. To do this, we must become leaders of change,” Bach said at a news conference at the Old London Olympic Park at the time. “We are determined to harness the enormous potential of AI in a responsible way.”

The IOC’s AI plans include using the technology to protect athletes from online harassment and help broadcasters improve the viewing experience for people watching at home. The IOC makes billions of dollars from selling Olympic rights.

“The report focuses on June and July 2023 and analyses all kinds of harmful online conversations – conversations that pose great risks to the French government, to France as a whole and also to the International Olympic Committee,” Boutboul added. “There is a reason for focusing on this particular period: Viginam is the operational arm of the French government focused on digital foreign interference.” [Viginum] We uncovered a foreign network of online actors waging a complete disinformation campaign aimed at French capabilities. [host] Olympic.”
President Emmanuel Macron spearheaded Viginam in 2021 to counter a series of destabilizing operations and prepare the country for any future eventuality. The agency began operations in October 2021.
