Detroit Lions Secure Star Pass Rusher

The Detroit Lions have officially extended the contract of their standout pass rusher.

Aidan Hutchinson’s agent confirmed on Wednesday that he has inked a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $180 million.

This new deal includes a staggering $141 million in guarantees, marking the highest guarantee ever provided to a player outside of the quarterback position.

Hutchinson’s average annual salary of $45 million ranks him just below Green Bay Packers’ Micah Parsons, who signed a four-year deal worth $186 million in August, averaging $46.5 million annually. It’s pretty impressive, really.

At 25, Hutchinson led the NFL in sacks last season, although he faced a significant setback with a season-ending foot injury during week six against the Cowboys.

Selected second overall in the 2022 draft, Hutchinson has been a consistent presence, starting all 17 games in both of his initial seasons. In his second year, he made quite a mark, recording 28.5 sacks and earning Pro Bowl honors.

As the 2025 season unfolds, Hutchinson is determined not to let his foot injury hinder his performance. So far, he has six sacks and four forced fumbles in just the first seven games.

The edge rusher was already under contract through 2026, thanks to a fifth-year option added in April.

With a strong 5-2 record, the Lions are eager to lock in their promising young talents ahead of free agency.

Hutchinson is now part of a growing list of young Lions players with long-term contracts, joining the likes of defensive tackle Alim McNeil, offensive tackle Penei Sewell, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and safety Kirby Joseph.

Fresh off a bye week, the Lions are set to face the Minnesota Vikings, who currently hold a 3-4 record, this coming Sunday.
