Aidan Hutchinson's sisters asked for prayers Sunday after the Lions' star defensive end suffered a severe foot injury in the third quarter of Detroit's 47-9 win over the Cowboys.
Aria and Mia Hutchinson posted a message on Instagram Stories from House of Hutch, Hutchinson's brand and non-profit partner, with the message “Pray for Aidan'' after Aidan broke his tibia. Reposted.
The post featured a photo of the Pro Bowler, who was selected No. 2 overall by Detroit in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Hutchinson suffered the serious injury early in the third quarter of the Lions' game against the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The 24-year-old injured his left leg when his leg got tangled with Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeil during a play in which he sacked Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Hutchinson was then carried off the field with his left leg immobilized and taken to a local hospital where he underwent immediate surgery.
lions coach Dan Campbell said: Hutchinson will remain hospitalized overnight in Dallas after undergoing surgery.
Campbell too told reporters Hutchinson would have been the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year when he broke the news of the player's tibia fracture.
Hutchinson's 2024 season is over, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport provided an encouraging update on his status in 2025.
“Aidan Hutchinson's tibia fracture is obviously season-ending, but early projections are that he should be fine for 2025. All things considered, that's good news,” Rapoport said. reported on sunday.
Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone, who is close friends with Hutchinson, said there was an emotional exchange before Hutchinson was carried off the field and taken to a local Dallas-area hospital.
“It's just an emotional moment. You might not really remember what you said or anything, but it's just one of them.” Anzalone told the Detroit Free Press.. “I had a really close relationship with him and seeing the emotion in the moment and knowing that it's hard to look someone in the eye in a situation like that, but you're just there for them. You're just trying to show them that you're thinking about them.
“I don't care about football, I just feel disappointed and discouraged. Maybe he feels he knows something is wrong, but it's difficult.”
The Lions (4-1) will play the Vikings (5-0) in Minnesota on Oct. 20.
