Air Force One Comes Back After Leaving for Davos Due to an Electrical Problem

Air Force One Returns to Joint Base Andrews

On Tuesday, Air Force One made an unexpected return to Joint Base Andrews in Washington, D.C., shortly after taking off with President Trump, due to what was described as “minor electrical issues.”

The plane had been en route to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. CNN reported that despite the hiccup, President Trump is still expected to attend the forum in Davos, traveling on a backup aircraft.

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt mentioned that the decision to turn back was made out of an abundance of caution, noting the “minor electrical issue.”

A reporter on board indicated that there had been a brief moment when the lights in the press room went out shortly after takeoff, although no further details were provided.

Interestingly, the two Air Force One planes currently in service have been operational for about 40 years. Boeing, tasked with creating a replacement, has encountered multiple delays. In February, Breitbart News noted that President Trump toured a new Boeing plane to evaluate the technology and hardware. Officials hinted this tour brought attention to Boeing’s struggles with timely delivery since the Air Force One contract was awarded in 2018.

During that visit, Trump was reported to be checking out new hardware but underscored the company’s failure to produce the new aircraft as scheduled.

Moreover, the ruling family of Qatar had gifted a Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet to the president, which is currently undergoing upgrades for security measures.
