half an hour: Hampton comes out to clear the ball and my word is she almost puts Ajax in, Johannes picks it up but empties the effort. The keeper has not been at his best so far.
28 minutes: Ajax takes a free-kick, but Chelsea intercepts the pass, Leiten tries to pass it into a good area, but Ajax blocks it well.
26 minutes: The pace of this match has slowed considerably since this goal, and Ajax will be hoping to contain the momentum created by their lead. Leupolz gives away a free kick, but it was deep in Chelsea’s half, so Ajax will have to put in a lot of effort to create something.
24 minutes: James strips Kaiser and boos rain down, but play continues. Chelsea were put on the back foot, but they soon regained control.
22 minutes: I thought another Chelsea player was checking the run, but it turned out to be James’s run which was checked by VAR. It’s interesting because VAR is not used in the group stage.

20 min: Chelsea thought that was it, James brought down Van Eyck and she put it in the back of the net, but the Chelsea player was ruled offside first. There’s VAR here, and James’ goal is checked.
18 minutes: Hampton doesn’t clear enough, but his defense helps this time. They played the ball inside the team and James almost got a shot, but Van Eyck took the shot.
16 minutes: Ajax really has James’ number early on, and she always has two defenders around her, unable to display her footwork skills – which really hinders Chelsea’s attack.
13 minutes: Chelsea came forward. James started off well, but the ball was taken away and Ajax counterattacked. Hoekstra takes a shot, but Hampton makes an easy save. Things are not going Chelsea’s way at the moment, with Ajax potentially having the advantage.
11 minutes: Ajax were looking to attack, but Buchanan quickly denied them a chance. The hosts have been patient with their build-up play and are content to play at the back for now.
9 minutes: Carter wins a free kick halfway and she kicks it herself. It’s a long ball, but it doesn’t reach Charles.
7 minutes: Very close to Grant’s first goal, amazing. She took a shot with her rifle and it went over Hampton but hit the post!
7 minutes: Buchanan was fouled in midfield, won a free kick and remained on the ground. But she doesn’t need treatment, so we keep playing. Chelsea narrowly win a free kick but end up losing possession. Ajax tried to counterattack, but Perisse, who had a great game against Arsenal last Friday, did a good job to deny them the chance.
5 minutes: It was a good shot, but the Chelsea players were unable to connect with the ball and Canelid did well to recover the ball, but Ajax’s excellent defense denied her the ball. They try to clear, but Chelsea quickly take control and James crosses in, but Nasken can’t get a clean touch.
3 minutes: Slow start for both teams so far, no clear chances yet, but Charles has won a corner.
