Al Gore endorses Harris: 'That’s the kind of climate champion we need in the White House'

Former Vice President Al Gore on Sunday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, joining a chorus of Democrats backing her candidacy to be the party’s presumptive alternative to President Biden.

Gore, a prominent environmental activist, endorsed Harris, citing her past support for climate change action.

“As a prosecutor, @KamalaHarris took on Big Oil and won. As @VP, she voted in the runoffs to pass the most significant climate investment in history: the Control Inflation Act,” Gore said in a statement on social platform X. “We need a climate champion like this in the White House.”

“There’s much at stake in this year’s election – from strengthening democracy in the United States and abroad to expanding opportunity for Americans to accelerating climate action. I’m proud to endorse Kamala Harris for president,” he added.

Many Democrats are backing Harris because she faces no significant challenger and has already secured enough delegate support to win the nomination.

When Biden announced on July 21 that he would not be seeking the nomination, former President Clinton and Secretary of State Clinton both endorsed Harris’ candidacy. Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, also endorsed Harris’ candidacy last week.

Gore served as Clinton’s vice president and ran for president in 2000 but lost to then-candidate George W. Bush in a historic election.
