Al Gore: Trump supporters are using him ‘as a vehicle’ to express their anger

Former Vice President Al Gore said Democrats should respect former President Trump’s supporters and suggested they were just using him “as a vehicle” to express their anger.

Gore, who served as President Clinton’s No. 2 until 2001, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Saturday that Gore’s supporters used the former president to project their dissatisfaction with the direction of the country, especially the economy. He said he was simply taking advantage of the invitation to the White House.

“I respect his supporters,” Gore said on CNN’s “The Amanpour Hour.” “And I think it’s very important in this election season that people continue to have respect for his supporters. Many of them are angry that they don’t think things are going in the right direction. He uses playing cards as a means to express his feelings.

Asked by Amanpour how President Biden’s supporters can counter this narrative, he emphasized the administration’s positive trajectory in January, including strong jobs numbers. Last month, the U.S. added 353,000 jobs and the unemployment rate held steady at 3.7%.

“I think more and more people are starting to wake up to the fact that things are starting to move in the right direction,” Gore said. “Inflation has fallen dramatically. It still has political influence. But 10 months from now, if this trend continues, inflation may no longer be a problem.”

“Employment is at an all-time high,” he continued. mediaite. “Unemployment is at record lows. Inequality is narrowing. And wages for the lowest earners are rising faster. It’s what many of us want and have been working toward for a long time. That’s it.”

The Labor Department released surprising jobs numbers Friday that exceeded the expectations of economists polled by the Wall Street Journal.

Still, inflation and high prices remain top concerns for many voters. Earlier this week, the Fed kept interest rates on hold in a range of 5.25% to 5.5%, pending “further confidence” that inflation is under control.

Biden, who comfortably won the South Carolina primary on Saturday, has recently clashed with Trump over the economy as he ramps up his marketing to voters, although some voters remain convinced by his handling of the domestic economy. Some people did not, and the approval rating was only 28%. It is rated excellent to good, according to a Pew Research Center study released last weekend.
