Al Pacino has revealed that he once contracted the coronavirus, lost consciousness at home, and almost died.
“I was sitting in the house and he was gone. …I didn't have a pulse,” said the 84-year-old “Godfather” actor. told the New York Times In an article published Saturday.
“They arrived in just a few minutes, an ambulance in front of my house.”
Pacino further recalled, “There were about six paramedics in that living room, two doctors, and they were dressed like they were from outer space or something.”
The Oscar winner said he lost consciousness and collapsed after telling an employee that he felt “unusually unwell” while battling symptoms of coronavirus infection, including fever and dehydration.
He did not reveal when the horrific incident occurred.
In his final moments, Pacino said he didn't see death the way he thought he would.
“I couldn't see any white light or anything,” the “Scarface” star said. “There's nothing there.”
“I've never thought about that in my life,” he continued. “But you know actors, it sounds better to say I'm dead once. What happens when I'm gone?”
Pacino also said that as he got older, he gained a new perspective on death.
“That’s the way it is,” he said matter-of-factly. “I didn't ask for it. It just comes, like a lot of things just come.”
The 'Irishman' star, with an award-winning body of work spanning decades, said 'having a child is a comfort' to death.
In addition to his three adult children, Pacino also has a 1-year-old son, Roman Pacino, who was born in June 2023 with his girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, now 30.
He has a daughter, Julie Marie, with ex-girlfriend Jean Tarrant, and twins Anton and Olivia with ex-girlfriend Beverly D'Angelo, whom he dated from 1997 to 2003.
Pacino takes his role as a father very seriously. told the Guardian In 2015, he began splitting his time between the East and West Coasts to ensure he was as “responsible” a father as possible.
