Almost two weeks after an unprovoked attack at a hatchet-wielding bus stop, Alabama’s father, who was almost beheaded by a hatchet-wielding maniac, died of injuries Thursday night, his family announced.
Jacob Couch has been declared dead at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Kold reported.
“I can’t believe we’re 11 years old. We always thought there were a lot more. I love you forever and always,” his wife, Kristen Couch, wrote on Facebook.
The 32-year-old was left in danger after being attacked by the suspected murderer Daniel Michael.
Couch and his wife were sitting at a bus stop in the downtown Tucson area as 25-year-old Michael stood up and yelled at them before pulling out his weapon.
Kristen Couch said that when Michael launched the attack, her husband was bent to collect his belongings and leave.
Michael cuts the artery with the neck of the sofa, and his sharp blade hits his skull during an intrusive attack.
Michael escaped from the scene when he jumped onto the tram when the couch bleed so badly from the wound.
The couple had lived in Los Angeles for 10 months before returning to Arab Arabia.
They had moved west to escape their old lives following the death of their son Brooks in May 2024.
They didn’t find what they were looking for and missed their 13- and 15-year-old daughters.
“Clothes our sweet baby so tightly until I can be with you again,” Kristen Couch wrote. “I know Jake was trying to fight. We all could see that, but now I think it might have been a small closure he could give us before he left this world.”
The family traveled to Arizona and were optimistically cautious before making decisions on couch’s life support.
The doctor had given the couch a small chance of recovery, but relatives said he saw slight improvements in his condition on the day he died.
“He’s still on life support, because when we first got here he was told he didn’t show any signs of life, and because we personally saw the difference between his movements and signs of life since we were still here.
The family will set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a trip to Tucson and use additional funds for medical expenses, transportation of couches to Alabama, and funeral costs.
They also hope that the money raised can be used to establish an account for Couch’s 15-year-old daughter to return to Arizona for future court hearings.
Michael was arrested three days later at his home and was initially charged with aggravated two counts of assault before the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder.
He is being held at Pima County Jail on a $1 million bond.
