Alabama dad who called TV station seeking help finding missing wife is charged with her murder

The Alabama “monster” father called the local television station with an emotional plea to help him find his missing wife.

Stephen Miller Sr., 64, filed a missing person report with his wife of 30 years, Gloria Miller, 57, Feb. 24, Dothan Police Department said. press release. The next day he was arrested and charged with her murder, but took his case into the air, called WDHN-TV and showed up with the family of his missing wife.

Stephen appeared on camera on his cell phone and was thought to call to help him find his wife, but her devastated relatives pleaded for her return.

“This is not normal at all. She hangs around the house, doesn't venture away from home, she's always quite hanging around the house,” Gloria's brother Sidney Whitaker said. wdhn Just before Stephen's confession appeared.

Gloria's family said she doesn't leave the house frequently, and if so, she normally drives, but the car was still home. Whitaker added that she would normally call him every day, but that wasn't the case.

When Dothan police took part in the investigation, multiple indicators of foul play were quickly born, officers said.

Gloria's phone and wallet were found at a mall five miles from Millers' home. Officers say Stephen apparently planted her belongings there before being handed over to a local business.

Her husband eventually admitted to “manually strangle her until she dies” on February 22, according to the DPD.

“I didn't realize the monster was inside him,” Whitaker said. wdhn.

Investigators recovered Gloria's body on February 25th in a dry creek bed under a bridge near Geneva County, just outside Dothan.

The couple had a history of alleged violence and conflict in their marriage. The DPD did not know exactly how many reports the two submitted to each other.

Stephen filed a protective order against his wife in January, claiming that she had pushed him and vowed to “destroy him.” He said she had a history of “mental abuse” and had previously been committed to a mental hospital.

The protective order was denied when the couple agreed to consider medication seeking counseling instead.

However, the order was a repetition of what was before Stephen demanding protection in July, when his wife was allegedly threatened to kill him, his son and his son's ex-wife. He later asked for it to be rejected.

Their daughter also tried to file restraint orders against her mother, and even claimed the incident repeatedly harassment and even came to her with a knife, but the request was denied.

Whitaker and the rest of Gloria's family advised her to get a divorce, especially after saying that she began to seriously fear her life in the past few months. Whitaker speculated that Gloria would likely remain because she didn't want her husband to have access to her assets.

Stephen is being held on $1.5 million in bonds at the Houston County Jail.
