Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell's sister, Kierston, passes away at 18

Tragic Loss at the University of Alabama

Kierston Russell, the twin sister of University of Alabama freshman quarterback Kieron Russell, has died, just days after her brother graduated from high school. She was only 18 years old.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her passing and noted that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is currently ongoing.

Colonel Jack Kennedy from the Sheriff’s Office’s violent crime unit mentioned that there has been significant media attention regarding this investigation, particularly related to an incident that occurred on June 4, 2025. He noted that the investigation appears to be non-criminal at this point.

Kierston had a promising basketball career at Duncanville High School in Texas and was expected to join her brother in Alabama this August. The twins graduated just last month, which makes this loss even more heartbreaking.

Kieron, who is a five-star recruit, eagerly signed up for Alabama’s spring training. Following the news of Kierston’s death, he shared memories of them together and expressed his grief through social media posts that convey a deep sense of gratitude and reflection on life’s blessings.

Kierston’s basketball team also released a heartfelt statement, expressing their sorrow over the loss of a “sister and teammate.” They described her as a fierce competitor with a kind spirit, whose legacy will continue to shine.

This tragic event leaves many in mourning, and the investigation into Kierston’s death is expected to provide more clarity as it unfolds.
