Alabama Resident Unveils Patriotic Lawn Mural for Independence Day
With a weed whacker in hand and a strong sense of patriotism, an Alabama man has turned his front yard into what might be one of the most iconic displays of American pride in the country.
As the 250th anniversary of the United States approaches, Ron Burkett aimed to create something truly memorable. Aerial photographs taken above his property in Trussville, Alabama, reveal a striking mural of a bald eagle, its wings stretched wide, dedicated to this significant milestone.
Using a combination of a drone, a tennis ball, a long cord, a wooden board as a guideline, and, of course, a weed whacker, Burkett meticulously crafted the mural across his lawn.
“This isn’t a political statement. It’s a celebration of America,” Burkett remarked about his creation. “I believe we should honor our foundational freedoms without getting entangled in the complexities of politics.”
The inspiration for the eagle mural came after a trip to New Orleans, where Burkett attended Sail 250, a festival celebrating the country’s maritime heritage.
Upon returning home, he felt a surge of inspiration to bring his vision to life.
While the eagle mural and “USA 250” lettering are impressive, they aren’t the only visual highlights on Burkett’s property. His driveway features yet another stunning mural.
Last Fourth of July, he had turned his driveway into a tribute using a power washer, painting a vivid image of the Statue of Liberty, with U.S. Air Force fighter jets soaring nearby. Remarkably, nearly a year later, that artwork remains vibrant and detailed, as if it was painted just yesterday.
This mural has become a local landmark in Trussville. However, Burkett doesn’t intend to preserve it; he allows nature to reclaim the space over time until inspiration strikes again.
For him, this mural is all about celebrating American identity and pride. The intricate design created for the 250th anniversary may not catch the eye from the street, but from a bird’s-eye view, the attention to detail is apparent, with each feather rendered beautifully across the grassy canvas.
When reflecting on what makes him proud to be American, Burkett’s answer encapsulates the essence of his patriotic spirit: “We have the freedom and the right to actively participate in our government through voting.”
