Alabama Couple Murdered in Home Invasion
Tragedy struck in Alabama as a military veteran and his wife were found murdered during a robbery, according to local authorities.
A 46-year-old man named George Birmingham was arrested on Sunday, suspected of killing Justin and Lena Elrod in their home located in Reform, Alabama. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office reported that the couple’s bodies were discovered at around 12:15 a.m. after someone reported a robbery. Birmingham now faces multiple charges, including one count of capital murder, two counts of murder, robbery, and drug-related offenses.
Details from court records suggest that Birmingham allegedly used a power saw to kill Lena Elrod, while Justin Elrod was reportedly attacked with a metal object.
Following the incident, investigators announced that Birmingham had some connection to the Elrod family, though a clear motive remains unclear at this time.
Aliceville Mayor Terrence Windham described Justin Elrod as a modest hard worker who, despite having survived military service, never imagined something like this could happen. “He survived the military, he survived his stint in prison, and now this situation is getting even worse,” Windham noted.
One of Justin’s co-workers, Jason Burns, expressed confusion over his friend’s tragic death. He shared that the reality of the loss frequently replays in his mind, saying, “About every five minutes, that moment comes.”
Authorities have urged the community to keep the victims’ family and those affected by this horrible event in their thoughts during this challenging time.
