Alabama’s Tyler Booker gives Nick Saban taste of own medicine after SEC snub

Nick Saban’s own quote is being thrown in his face.

Saban, who retired earlier this year after his legendary tenure as the University of Alabama football coach and is now a commentator for ESPN, predicted that Georgia and Texas will face off in this year’s SEC Championship Game.

Far from feeling ignored, the former players have taken it in stride.

“What he taught me was not to pay attention to the outside factors. He’s working in the stadium now, not the facility, so he’s an outside factor,” offensive lineman Tyler Booker said lightheartedly at SEC Media Day. ESPN reported:.

“So I don’t care what he says. He said, ‘Don’t listen to some guy who sits in his mom’s basement and tweets all day.’ So I don’t listen to some guy who plays golf all day.”

Quarterback Jalen Milroe didn’t let the comments affect his feelings toward his former coach.

“All we want to do is focus on ourselves and worry about ourselves,” he said. “We still love our coach and everything is fine.”

Defensive back Malachi Moore isn’t fazed either, but he may be using the moment as message board fodder.

“It’s way too soon for Coach Saban to take on a role other than Coach Saban,” Moore said, “but he has a job to do and he has a right to his opinion. But, yeah, we listened to him.”

Saban won seven national championships during his coaching career, six of them at Alabama.

He was replaced by Cullen DeBoer, who led Washington to a 34-13 loss to Michigan in last season’s national championship game.
