Alan Hamel Finds Romance Again After Suzanne Summers’ Death
Over a year after Suzanne Summers passed away, her husband, Alan Hamel, is exploring new romantic possibilities. Recently, he has reconnected with Joanna Cassidy, who was Summers’ co-star in “Hollywood Wives.”
Reflecting on their connection, Hamel shared that Cassidy appeared as a guest on his show back in the ’70s. He mentioned, “Joanna was a fantastic guest, and we shared mutual respect, primarily as friends since we were both married at the time.” He and Summers were together for 46 years after marrying in 1977.
Interestingly, Hamel’s son, Stephen, met Cassidy at a film event and suggested that his father and Cassidy might hit it off. He recalled, “After chatting, I thought, why not? I mentioned the idea to Joanna.” They eventually got together and Hamel humorously noted their age difference during the conversation, to which Cassidy responded with laughter.
During the ’80s, while filming “Hollywood Wives,” Hamel mentioned he often encountered Cassidy, emphasizing how genuine those interactions were. Summers and Cassidy also shared the screen in a miniseries adaptation of Jackie Collins’ novels alongside well-known actors like Anthony Hopkins and Candice Bergen.
Hamel appreciated Cassidy not just for her acting but also for her charitable work, particularly for first responders. He expressed how much he enjoys their time together, saying it feels authentic and filled with laughter. “In Suzanne’s final days, she mentioned how fortunate I was to have Joanna in my life,” he added thoughtfully.
As for where the relationship may lead, Hamel is uncertain but seems optimistic. “At this stage in my life, I feel blessed. Looking back at my journey with Suzanne, I know I’ve had an incredible life filled with cherished moments and a wonderful family,” he shared. Suzanne Summers died in October 2023, just a day before her 77th birthday, after battling breast cancer.
