Actor Alan Ritchson Admits Studio Concerns Over Political Remarks

Alan Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, recently acknowledged that his studio executives have urged him to tone down his political commentary, which is starting to alienate some of his audience.

During an appearance at the Fan Expo convention in Canada at the end of August, Ritchson spoke candidly about how his outspoken views on politics have not sat well with those in charge of his projects.

“You know how many phone calls I get from studios like, ‘Would you shut the heck up, please? Stop talking in public?’” he shared, reflecting on the discussions he’s had with his studio heads.

He elaborated, saying, “I mean, it’s not chaos I’m after. It’s actually the opposite of chaos. I’d like a little — but I’m not going to delve into that. You really don’t want to see my rants about these goddamn politicians everywhere.”

Ritchson then declared, “I’m not going to do it. Sony told me not to. And I’m not going to say anything. Not today. Not today, Epstein,” referencing Jeffrey Epstein and drawing cheers from the audience.

A woman interviewing him even gave him a fist bump for his fiery commentary, to which Ritchson responded, “Pedos win.”

His comments came just a week before he announced he was getting a divorce from his wife, Catherine Ritchson, after twenty years of marriage. “Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside each other in a different way,” the 43-year-old actor wrote on Instagram.

He went on to express, “We grew up together, we built a life and family, and we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world. Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share.”

It’s clear why Ritchson’s studio heads might feel uneasy about his political statements. He has moved from simply sharing his thoughts on current events to openly attacking those who have differing views.

For instance, in July, he labeled President Trump a “rapist” and claimed that Republicans are “pedophiles,” despite lacking any evidence. He hasn’t shied away from derogatory remarks either, calling Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz a “motherfucker,” and insisting that one cannot simultaneously be a Christian and support Trump or the Republican party. Moreover, he has incited Americans to act out in anger over political matters, condoning those who engage in violent acts against Trump.

Additionally, Ritchson was also recently captured on video involving himself in a physical altercation with his neighbor. He later claimed that the neighbor had provoked the altercation.

The actor has been open about his struggles with mental health, revealing last year that he faced such crippling depression during the rise of his acting career that he attempted suicide. “Being bipolar has wreaked havoc on my life many, many times. I would wish it away if I could, but it’s so much a part of who I am now that I should celebrate it a little or, at least, accept it,” he said.
