Albany news anchor Olivia Jaquith reports during labor after her water breaks at a CBS station.

News Anchor Delivers While in Labor

Breaking news emerged from New York as a pregnant news anchor announced her water had broken while on air—yet she continued to deliver the broadcast for an impressive three hours.

Olivia Jaquis, who anchors at WRGB, Albany’s CBS affiliate, shared this surprising moment shortly before 6 AM on Wednesday. Reports confirm that she conveyed the announcement during the morning show, just as the newscast began.

Jaquis, along with her co-anchor Julia Dunn, took to Facebook Live moments prior to explain the unexpected situation. “This isn’t an April Fool’s joke; Olivia’s water has broken—in the newsroom!” her colleague Dan remarked.

Jaquis confirmed the news, handing the phone back to Dan who encouraged her to explain her unique circumstances. “I have no clue what’s happening; it’s my first time!” she humorously admitted.

She went on to share that she had felt off the previous day and visited her doctor, which led to some early indications of labor. The following morning, just as she started her shift, her water broke while she was in the bathroom.

Despite being two days past her due date, Jaquis maintained her composure during the live broadcast, exchanging jokes with her colleagues. “We have some broken news this morning—literally, Olivia’s water has broken, and she’s fully committed to aggressive labor,” Dan quipped at the start of the show.

“Early work, early work,” Jaquis added with a smile. “Let’s not get too carried away, though.” Throughout the segment, her co-workers kept timing her contractions, which she joked were a bit sporadic.

As she maintained her presence on set, Jaquis assured viewers, “I’m happy to be here. I’ll stay as long as I can, but if I vanish, you know what’s happening.”

The broadcast team made light of the situation, even displaying a graphic at the top of the screen reading, “Due date has passed: 2.” Headlines that popped up included playful phrases like “Baby Watch” alongside witty remarks about the impending delivery.

Jaquis appeared relaxed and unbothered during the newscast, even asking the station’s meteorologist, “If my baby comes today, what’s the weather like?” Her lighthearted banter continued, with the weatherman jokingly suggesting he would transport her to the hospital if things escalated quickly.

In a funny twist, Jaquis recommended viewers take a “water break” instead of a coffee break during the show.

By Thursday, she joyfully announced on Instagram the arrival of her baby boy, reflecting on what a whirlwind the last 24 hours had been. “I’ll soak up all the kisses and hugs for now, but I’ll share updates soon,” she shared.
