Baldwin still faces a civil lawsuit filed by Hutchins' family. The actor's lawyers filed a motion to suspend the case on November 19, the day before Rust premiered in Poland.

Attorney Gloria Allred filed the lawsuit in February 2023 on behalf of Hutchins' mother, sister and father, alleging battery, loss of consortium and infliction of emotional distress.
“To finish the movie – and there's another pending movie, so the only thing I can say about this is [civil] Case – We traveled to Montana. All my doctors, including mental health professionals and cardiologists, told me not to go. In other words, I was not feeling well for a while after that, I was physically exhausted and unwell. The suit names Baldwin, the “Lust” producers and additional defendants, and alleges that Hutchins was financially responsible for his family and had plans to bring them to the United States.

He has not yet seen the final cut of the western, but is hopeful that investors will return to the film.
