Alec Pierce’s NFL Milestone and Ejection
In the Indianapolis Colts’ final game of the season, receiver Alec Pierce achieved a significant milestone, reaching over 1,000 receiving yards. Unfortunately, his achievement was somewhat overshadowed when he was ejected late in the third quarter for making contact with an official during a controversial play.
The 25-year-old recorded four receptions for a season-high of 132 yards, including two touchdowns. Remarkably, Pierce finished the regular season leading the NFL with an impressive average of 21.3 yards per reception for the second year in a row.
Amidst the excitement of his personal success, the ejection was a disappointing turn of events for Pierce. Reflecting on the loss to the Houston Texans, he expressed his frustration. “Even though I knew this was my last game, it wasn’t the way I wanted it to end. I wanted to go out there today and finish it with my brothers,” he noted.
Pierce’s ejection stemmed from a dispute regarding a third-and-goal play from the 6-yard line. He believed that Texans cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram should have been flagged for pass interference. In the heat of the moment, after engaging with the referee, he ended up pulling the flag himself.
“I thought it was pass interference, so I was talking to him about it and I think we bumped into each other,” he explained. Following the incident, he apologized to the official, trying to clarify that his actions weren’t meant to be hostile. “I wasn’t trying to mess with him,” he emphasized.
Despite not qualifying for the playoffs and the way the game unfolded, Pierce felt a sense of accomplishment with his first 1,000-yard season. “This is a huge milestone. I think that’s the goal of every receiver in the NFL. It’s a milestone worth noting. Obviously, the season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, and we’d much rather be in the playoffs, but we’ll take what we can get,” he concluded.
