Alex Bowman’s NASCAR Future Confirmed with Contract Extension

Alex Bowman’s future in the NASCAR Cup Series was once unclear, but that’s changed. The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro for Hendrick Motorsports has signed a one-year contract extension, ensuring his place with the team until 2027.

However, it’s worth noting that the 33-year-old plans to retire from full-time racing following that season.

“I have spent a lot of time thinking about what happens next, and I feel this was the right decision at the right time,” Bowman shared in a statement. It’s clear he’s putting a lot into this choice, saying, “This sport demands a lot from you, but I’ve learned that it’s important to listen to your body and make the choices that are right for you.” He expressed gratitude toward Mr. Hendrick, as well as his partners at Allie and Chevrolet, remarking how they believed in him and provided him with an incredible opportunity.

Looking ahead, Bowman said his focus is on maximizing his time on the track and striving for wins. He admitted, “We still have a lot to accomplish, but I want to finish my career on a good note for the team and the fans. Having the chance to do it with this organization and these people is really special.”

Over the years, Bowman has faced his share of injuries. He missed five races in the 2022 season due to concussion-like symptoms. Additionally, a fractured vertebra from a sprint car accident caused him to sit out three races the following season, and recently, dizziness forced him to miss four more this year.

Despite these challenges, the Tucson native boasts eight career wins, four of which he achieved in the 2021 season. Unfortunately, this current season has not been kind to the No. 48 car, as Bowman ranks 29th in the Cup Series standings, marking the worst performance since 2015 before he joined Hendrick Motorsports.
