Alex Bregman day-to-day after sleeping on his arm wrong

Alex Bregman will likely miss the weekend after not getting enough sleep last night.

The Astros’ star third baseman is suffering from a swollen elbow after sleeping with his arm in an awkward position “a few days ago.” According to a report from The Athletic on Friday:.

An MRI showed no damage to the elbow, but he will be out for some time to allow the injury to heal.

“I just need to rest up a few days,” Bregman said. “Obviously, I’m swinging the bat well right now, so it’s disappointing. It’s not like I can’t play again, but it’s something we need to address quickly.”

Bregman, a two-time All-Star, has had a down year by his standards but has improved significantly since his dismal start.

Through April, Bregman was hitting just .216 with a .283 on-base percentage, .294 slugging percentage and one home run, but since May he’s hitting .274 with a .328 on-base percentage, .488 slugging percentage and 18 home runs.

Barring a hamstring injury that plagued him in 2020-2021, the 30-year-old Bregman has been a consistent presence on the field for Houston throughout his nine-year career, appearing in 150-plus games in five of the past seven seasons since his brief rookie year in 2016.

Bregman is set to become a free agent this offseason and is expected to be one of the most sought-after position players on the market.

Bregman’s return to form has helped the Astros bounce back from a tough start.

Houston enters Friday’s game with a 65-55 record and is three games behind the Mariners in the American League West.

The Astros are seeking their eighth consecutive ALCS appearance and third World Series title since 2017.
