Alex Rodriguez Reflects on His Business Ventures
Alex Rodriguez expresses his appreciation for athletes who focus on business pursuits.
The former Yankees star transitioned from a baseball superstar to the CEO of A-Rod Corp. and is currently a co-owner of the NBA’s Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Lynx.
He highlighted Nafisa Collier as an inspiring figure in professional sports, noting that she sets an example for both men and women in athletics. Rodriguez believes athletes should look beyond just the game. “The way she approaches her sport is, well, it’s impressive,” he remarked.
Back in the ownership circle, Rodriguez, who has been part of the Timberwolves as a limited partner for four years, recently gained full control, following a unanimous approval from the NBA Governor’s Committee last month.
Reflecting on his experiences, the 2009 World Series champion credited lessons learned from the late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. “George always aimed for excellence, and that mentality is invaluable,” he shared.
Rodriguez believes that his time as a limited partner was filled with valuable experiences. He mentioned Commissioner Adam Silver’s encouragement to absorb knowledge from his fellow governors. “It’s about learning from the best,” he added.
The Timberwolves ended their season after a Game 5 loss to the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. It marked their second consecutive year missing the NBA Finals.
Meanwhile, the Lynx are gearing up for a playoff run after a strong start to the season. Rodriguez is proud of the progress both teams have made. “It’s been an exciting journey,” he commented on the Timberwolves being among the top four teams and the Lynx’s recent ups and downs.
He noted, “Minnesota is truly a vibrant sports community, filled with passionate fans.”
Rodriguez’s engagements don’t stop at basketball; he has also been involved with the Liberty franchise, which he predicts will see increased valuation due to a new training facility. “That’s fantastic for the team and the community,” he stated.
On a personal note, Rodriguez recently celebrated his 50th birthday in Italy with his daughters and girlfriend, fitness entrepreneur Jaclyn Cordeiro. It seems like there’s a blend of professional ambitions and family joys in his life.
Rodriguez has also been serving as an MLB analyst for Fox Sports since 2017 and signed a multi-year deal with the network in 2023. By keeping his hand in both sports and business, he appears committed to, well, making a significant impact in both arenas.
