Alex Singleton’s Surgery Announcement

Denver Broncos middle linebacker Alex Singleton has shared that he recently underwent surgery to remove testicular cancer just a day after playing against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a post on social media, Singleton revealed that a league-mandated drug test conducted a little over two weeks ago showed heightened levels of the hCG hormone. Following this, further consultations with doctors confirmed the diagnosis.

Doctors identified a tumor that required surgical removal, and Singleton expressed optimism saying that the “prognosis is very good” for a complete recovery.

“I’m really relieved that the cancer was detected early,” he stated. “While we are waiting for some additional test results, I fully expect to be back on the field in the upcoming weeks.” He had consulted with urologist Dr. Andrew Girovy, who initially suspected testicular cancer.

In his announcement, Singleton mentioned contacting the Broncos promptly, connecting with Dr. Jeff Ledgerwood, who quickly performed an ultrasound to validate the diagnosis. He underwent surgery on Friday, just after playing the previous night’s game.

Before going public with his health issues, Singleton made sure to discuss it with his teammates. Although he wrestled with the decision to share such private information, he felt it was important. “If sharing my experience can encourage someone to be more aware of their health, it’s worth it. Regular check-ups and early detection can really save lives,” he noted.

Singleton has been a standout linebacker recently, ranking fifth in the league for tackles with 89 through ten games. As the defensive captain for the Broncos, he achieved 177 tackles in 2023, following 163 tackles in his first season in Denver, although he faced a season-ending injury just three games into the 2024 season.

Singleton’s football journey began in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders, where he shone from 2016 to 2018. The Philadelphia Eagles recognized his talent while he was at Montana State University, and he played there for three seasons before joining the Broncos.
