NHL Injury Update: Another Unusual Incident
This NHL season has seen an odd string of off-ice injuries, and now another player is joining the ranks. The St. Louis Blues have announced that forward Alexei Trobchenko will be listed as a substitute for the week due to “burns to his foot in an accident at home.” Specific details about the incident haven’t been released yet.
“We know it was a home accident, so we’ll just leave it at that,” said head coach Jim Montgomery during a press conference.
Trobchenko had played in the Blues’ recent 1-0 victory over the Utah Mammoths and received a five-minute major penalty plus a game misconduct for a knee-to-knee hit involving Logan Cooley just before his accident was disclosed.
This marks yet another player being sidelined due to unusual circumstances this season. New Jersey Devils standout Jack Hughes will also be out for two months after undergoing surgery on an injured finger, which he sustained in somewhat of a bizarre incident at a Chicago steakhouse.
There are no specifics on which finger was affected, although a social media photo of Hughes with pop star Tate McRae shows him sporting a bandage on his right hand.
In addition to these injuries, the Florida Panthers reported that forward Etu Luostarinen would be week-to-week due to a “barbecue accident.” The timeline for his return remains uncertain.
“We haven’t dealt with something like this very often,” said Panthers head coach Paul Maurice regarding Luostarinen’s injury.
