Los Angeles County Officer Killed in Crash During Police Pursuit

First responders in Los Angeles County are grieving the death of an Alhambra police officer, who lost his life in a tragic incident early Thursday morning. The officer was killed when a police chase concluded in a violent collision.

As reported by local sources, Officer Alec Sanders, 28, was on duty around 3 a.m. when Alhambra police initiated a chase of an SUV occupied by three suspects.

The suspect’s vehicle ultimately collided with Sanders’ patrol SUV. The force of the crash was severe enough to eject a female suspect from the vehicle, resulting in her being pronounced dead at the scene.

The front of Sanders’ police vehicle was significantly damaged, and the airbag deployed. Officers found him unconscious and without a pulse inside the SUV. He was transported about four miles to Los Angeles General Medical Center, where he passed away several hours later.

According to the Alhambra Police Chief, Garrett Kennedy, Sanders had volunteered to cover another officer’s night shift on that fateful night.

The department remembered him as a “dedicated public servant, trusted partner, and caring friend.” They noted his reliability and discipline in both his professional and personal life, stating, “His sacrifice will be forever remembered.” The community mourns his loss.

Having joined the Alhambra Police Department in April 2025, Sanders had previously worked one year with the Long Beach Police Department.

A solemn procession marked his journey to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later on Thursday. Footage captured numerous officers walking in tribute behind the van carrying his body, with many first responders from various agencies lining the street to honor him.

Sanders is survived by his fiancée, parents, and two younger brothers. The Alhambra Police Department urged the community to keep his loved ones and the department in their thoughts during this challenging time, expressing deep gratitude for the support they have received.
