Filming can be quite a ride.
Ali Larter shared with people what she found to be the hardest scene to film in the second season of “Landman.”
“Episode 9 was really tough for me,” said the 49-year-old actress in an interview released on Sunday. “That was one of the hardest moments.”
In Taylor Sheridan’s series centered around the oil industry, Larter portrays Angela Norris, the passionate ex-wife of Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton. Episode 9 explores Angela’s struggles as her daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) heads to cheer camp just before leaving for college.
“Angela is grappling with this sense of loss as her daughter moves out,” Larter remarked about the scene. “I have numerous friends who’ve faced similar losses, and I’ve witnessed their heartfelt struggles.” She mentioned a moment when Ainsley described Angela’s tearful breakdown in the car as they approached the dormitory.
“I think Angela feels a void in her life without her daughter. What does her future hold now?” Larter expressed. “She genuinely wants viewers to connect with those feelings,” adding that it was an emotional moment.
She quickly realized the impact her performance had on the audience. “I often hear from mothers who relate to that situation. When you invest so much into raising your children and they start their own lives, who do you become?” she explained, reflecting on identity beyond motherhood.
Larter has been candid about the challenges of working on the popular Paramount+ show. She even mentioned how reluctant she was about filming bikini scenes. “I don’t think there’s an actress out there who jumps for joy at the thought of doing a bikini scene!” she said. “It’s just part of the narrative, but it’s definitely not the fun aspect.”
However, she also noted that portraying Angela’s bold character can be empowering at times. “Walking in front of someone in a swimsuit is quite daunting,” she reflected in a previous interview. “The most confident women I know own who they are, which is part of what I try to embody while playing Angela. There’s no room for insecurities when I’m in that role.”
“Angela leads her life unapologetically,” Larter continued. “She doesn’t care about others’ opinions. For me, it’s thrilling to portray someone like that since I often feel the pressure to conform.”
The first two seasons of “The Landman” can be watched on Paramount+.
