Align interview: ‘Pro-Life Spiderman’ Maison DesChamps

Almost a year ago, fans who flocked to Phoenix to watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LII witnessed a rare pregame show. It was a man free climbing the city’s abandoned 40-story Chase Tower. While it certainly didn’t change anything for panicked local authorities, the perpetrator of the dangerous stunt claimed a nobler motive than an adrenaline rush or social media clout. Maison Deschamps, 23, says he risked his life to raise money for anti-abortion charity Let Them Live, which supports women with crisis pregnancies.

This was not Deschamps’ first ascent for the cause, nor would it be his last. In October, a self-proclaimed “pro-life Spider-Man” appeared. Climbed Accenture Tower in Chicago. Aline recently spoke with Deschamps about the origins of his paranormal activity, how he overcomes fear, and why he feels justified in risking his life. This interview has been edited for clarity.

Alignment: Let’s start with the backstory.

Maison Deschamps: So the first thing I climbed was the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. You’re sitting at home scrolling through your phone and you see a picture of a dead baby, right? This was a baby killed by an abortion. My friend AJ Hurley and some girls found this baby outside an abortion clinic in Washington, DC. They found a box. They got it from a medical waste truck driver.

And when they brought the box home, they found five fully grown babies, eight months old and about to be born, slaughtered and torn apart by this doctor. So when I saw that picture, I don’t know, it was like something hit me and I didn’t do anything about what was going on, so what kind of man am I? Like my salvation is at risk if I don’t do something about this. So I put together all this money and bought a plane ticket to San Francisco. And the funny thing is, we didn’t even know if the building was climbable. I saw a photo online and thought, oh, this looks good. And I was really nervous. It has these horizontal fins across it. And I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to reach out there. So what I was wearing was something called a squamas. They are a type of mountain climbing shoe, but they have rubber in the toe and toe areas. So if you have to climb up on your feet and do what’s called a toe hook, you can literally throw your whole body around this thing. Because I thought my legs were longer than my arms. But luckily it was a very easy climb. And the funny thing is, I had been preparing to climb this building for about a month. I raised money, bought tickets, paid the drone pilot, and everything else. And it just happened to be the morning we woke up to go out to San Francisco and climb the tower.
dobbs A shocking draft has been leaked egg. There are no plans for that. I couldn’t have predicted that. In other words, it was just a coincidence or providence. It’s kind of cool that this article made it to the top of the news.

Aline: So tell me about how you got hooked on Let Them Live and how it propelled you.

deschamps: Well, “Let Them Live” is amazing. These are based on the statistic that 73% of abortions are due to economic reasons. So what they’re doing is trying to support these women financially. That’s because sidewalk counselors are often the people who stand outside abortion clinics and try to convince women who are headed for an abortion not to have one. One. They’ll beg these people, please don’t go in there and kill the babies, and… they’ll just be ignored. But sometimes it comes down to, “What if we paid the rent? Would that help you? Would that make you want to have this baby?” . So we pay for the women’s real needs, like rent and medical expenses, and we try to provide them with job counseling and other services to help them become independent after giving birth. But I saw what they were doing and I really liked it.

So I climbed I think three or four buildings and raised money for them. And in the end, they found out when they got a big check in the mail and they liked what I was doing. Nathan Berning, the CEO, called me and said he wanted to hire you full-time. And he said, “I’d like to pay you to do whatever you want.” Go save the baby. It doesn’t matter who you do it for or how you do it. Just go save the babies who are killed by abortion. This is really great. Because it also allows me to partner with other organizations and go out and do other kinds of activities. It was a lot of fun.

Alignment: Please tell us a few things about your sponsors.

deschamps: So, this is our new sponsor. I am very grateful to the companies that support me. Because, like I said, one of the things that I fear is that if we do a climb like this, the media coverage will get worse or our story will eventually get out. This is because it means that it may not come out. , so not enough funds are raised. And luckily these companies were willing to sponsor me and donate a lot of money to charity. This is really great. You know, we have Water, Freedom2o, and my friend’s company, Make America Gospel Again. He makes these hats. I met him at a Turning Point event. This booth sells hats, so I went to buy a hat and it was his last one, so he gave me a hat. But the rest of the weekend is more of a three-day event, so he turned his booth into a prayer booth. So he sits there and prays for people, and he’s a really decent guy and has a good message. Because I truly believe that the way we fight this problem is through Christ and Christ alone. And you read 2 Chronicles 7:14, right? It says that if we turn to God, humble our hearts, turn from our wicked ways, and call out this sin, God will restore our land. And in this movement, we see compromises again and again. And again, I blame the church and blame the pro-life movement as the reason abortion still exists. The Bible has given us instructions on how to deal with these problems. And we’ve been ignoring it for years.

I went to the March for Life gala in Washington DC. I won’t say which, but they started off by congratulating everyone for coming out on the night of their 51st lavish dinner, and it made me sick to my stomach, because I… If it takes 51 times, you haven’t even hit these yet and you’re doing something wrong. We have to make more sacrifices.

We, I mean, we really have to follow God’s word, but there’s a tendency in the pro-life movement to make exceptions, right? For example, just like putting forward a heartbeat bill, if a bill is on the ballot, of course I’m going to vote for it. I want to save the baby. But if you say that abortion begins at the time of pregnancy, but then introduce this bill that says abortion begins when the heart beats, that’s completely contradictory.

You know, we make a difference by speaking the truth and always telling it in its entirety. And unless we do that, we won’t achieve anything. It’s funny, when I started this movement, I was really scared to tell the truth when it came to talking about the dangers of what I was doing. This is just one example of how telling the truth can work to your advantage. I was kind of brushing it off, you know? I think, oh, most of these buildings are pretty easy. You know, I’m a very good climber and I can handle it. This is partially true. But it can also fall. I might die. You might slip. But the truth is that what we are fighting for is worth risking our lives for. So, as I said, this is the Holocaust – over 70 million babies were murdered. It would be a shame if he died of old age.

That’s really true. Yes, the same thing applies to the pro-life movement. Because as soon as I started accepting that, as soon as I started telling the truth and saying no, this is worth fighting for, people started wanting to talk to me. I started doing all these interviews. My page started exploding. And people are drawn to that. They want something to fight for. They want to see the passion, they want to see this belief. And this kind of bland and shameful speech will get us nowhere.
