Caitlin Clark recently found herself in the spotlight once again after the Indiana Fever’s thrilling overtime win against the Atlanta Dream. During the game’s closing moments, as Angel Reese reacted to a missed chance to win, cameras caught Clark smiling in the background while Reese was comforted by teammate Rhyne Howard.
It wasn’t entirely clear what sparked Clark’s expression, but social media quickly turned the moment into a viral sensation.
This incident added yet another layer to the ongoing rivalry between Clark and Reese, which began with Reese’s “You can’t see me” gesture towards Clark during the 2023 national championship game.
In a recent episode of the “Post Moves” podcast, Indiana Fever center Aliyah Boston discussed Clark’s viral moment with co-host and Basketball Hall of Famer Candace Parker. During their chat about the Fever-Dream game, Parker asked Boston if she’d noticed Clark’s reaction to the missed shot. Boston recounted her thoughts, reflecting, “In real time you see nothing, but we [the Fever] saw it after and I was like, ‘Here we go.’”
Boston also touched on the online reactions, stating, “No ‘cause like, we just—peace, love and happiness. We will never be free!”
Parker pointed out that the Fever have been part of several major viral moments this WNBA season, mentioning Sophie Cunningham’s pointing gesture and Paige Bueckers telling Clark to “calm down.” She added that Reese, too, had experienced her share of meme-worthy moments.
“I would have been like Paige, too,” Parker said, suggesting a similar reaction. However, Boston wasn’t swayed, asserting that telling someone to calm down usually doesn’t help. “No, I don’t care,” she remarked.
Following the August 16 game, the Dream have shown strong performance, winning four consecutive matches and securing a postseason spot. Recently, the Fever achieved a victory over the Chicago Sky, which garnered impressive viewership. Indiana is set to play against the Connecticut Sun this Friday.
