Indiana Fever star Ariya Boston was caught off guard on Saturday when she found out she’d received a technical foul alongside Kate Clark and Angel Reese during the third quarter of their game.
The foul occurred after Clark made contact with a player from the Chicago Sky while attempting a shot. After the incident, Reese fell but quickly got back up, confronting Clark. Boston stepped in to separate the two players.
The referee ruled that Clark’s actions crossed the line of acceptable gameplay, stating she pushed Reese to the ground using her left hand. To Boston’s astonishment, she was also assessed a technical foul.
During the post-game press conference, Boston expressed her disbelief, asking, “Did I get the skills? Ah, no!” It was clear she was still processing what had happened.
Clark, meanwhile, defended her play, suggesting it wasn’t as severe as the referees portrayed it. “I don’t know what they saw to call it that way. It’s basketball! It’s just a foul that leads to free throws,” she remarked, drawing from her extensive experience in the sport.
Clark also expressed her appreciation for Boston’s support, stating she would cover any fines Boston might incur from the situation.
Reese, for her part, downplayed the drama, labeling the incident simply as “basketball play.”
In the end, Indiana triumphed over their opponents with a score of 93-58. Clark achieved a remarkable triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Boston contributed significantly with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
