AEW to Host Special “Dynamite” for Rebel Heart
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is set to present a unique edition of “Dynamite” this Wednesday, aimed at supporting pro wrestler Tanea Brooks, who is famously known as Rebel, as she battles ALS.
Dubbed “Rebel Heart,” the event will take place at the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. Since Brooks revealed her diagnosis back in May, AEW and the wider wrestling community have rallied around her. Many stars across different promotions have been promoting “Rebel Heart” T-shirts and have participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise both funds and awareness for this challenging disease.
In a statement made after Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor in Philadelphia, AEW and ROH owner Tony Khan expressed his thoughts on the upcoming show. “Rebel’s been a wonderful friend to all of us and an integral part of AEW right from the start,” he noted. “Although we haven’t seen Rebel on AEW TV in a while, dedicating an episode to her and this fight against ALS is truly special. The ‘Rebel Heart’ show next month is all about raising money in her honor.”
Khan continued, “We all care for her deeply. She remains a significant member of the AEW family. Even if she isn’t on TV every week, we’re keeping her in our thoughts.”
Brooks disclosed her diagnosis on May 1, sharing in a video, “The doctors have told me I have terminal ALS. Sadly, there isn’t much research on ALS, so we’re unsure how much time I might have. But it explains the difficulties I’ve been facing with walking and talking, which will likely worsen over time.” She expressed gratitude for the support she’s received, saying, “Now, we can prepare for what lies ahead, and I want to thank everyone.”
Brooks joined AEW in 2019, starting off in a backstage and stylist role before making her on-screen debut in 2020 alongside Britt Baker as her makeup artist. She participated in a few matches but unfortunately suffered an injury.
The “Rebel Heart” card features an impressive lineup. Will Ospreay will face David Finlay in an AEW World Championship elimination match, while Darby Allin and Steven Borden team up against Mark Davis and Josh Alexander in a tag team contest. In addition, the AEW World Trios Championship will be contested as Swerve Strickland, Kofi, and Austin Creed take on Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong. There’s also a women’s trios match involving Maya World, Hyan, and Thunder Rosa against Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Persephone, along with a tables match featuring the Young Bucks against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight.
Brooks is anticipated to appear on the show alongside Baker in a segment titled “The Waiting Room,” where fans can also expect to see Persephone and Shida involved.
